============================================================== Big E tells us This weekend the snowdrops are peeking out. Submitted 21/1/2011 ===============================================================
Big E wrote on
14th March -We're just back from the first work weekend of the season and it was a great success. 17
couples in attendance all busy tidying the site for the coming year thus retaining its natural beauty.
The top camping field was
fitted with a second distribution box for those campers requesting electricity. This will now eliminate
the long trailing leads we disliked so much. We obtained a new cooker for the kitchen which will be a great
boon when we hold our monthly functions. The old one was past its best and too small to cater for the increased
membership. Spring cleaning the kitchen and washing all the crockery took some effort, with all the chipped
plates being consigned to the bin. Although there were no signs of a mice visitation over the winter, ensuring
clean plates, etc. is a must. Prudent tree management continues apace. This is a careful
blend of retaining the natural wooded landscape, maintaining privacy and letting the sun in. A naturist
club in the shade is not ideal. The toilet block was reinstated (we drain down for the winter) and thoroughly
cleaned ready for use. The plastic barrels floating in the swimming pool (another frost precaution) were
removed and the pool partially drained down. Initial inspection reveals a few tiles have lifted from the
side due to the harsh winter and a little TLC needed. It will be another month before I reconnect the solar
panels. A bank by the main gate was showing signs of erosion so a number of rustic retaining barriers were
erected to hold back the soil. Years and years worth of leaves were removed to the left of the rose arch,
once again exposing the long lost sandstone cutting which had been hidden for ages in the undergrowth. It
the tidiest I've seen for a long time. The raised garden by the toilet block received its first load
of TLC.
In the woods and on the natural gardens banks the snow drops continue to hold their own against the daffodils but it
will be only a short time before the white carpet is replaced by yellow.
Enquiries on the web are starting to pick up and a
couple of early bookings made.

R updated us on 6th May, telling us --- The snowdrops and daffodils have now given way to banks clothed in bluebells,
these flowers have benefited from the work of one of our lady members who works hard to keep the brambles from taking over
the sides of the natural, South facing valley that gives us such an enjoyable sun trap in front of the cottage, where members
meet to sunbathe or enjoy the twice daily cup of tea. Just listen for the bell

Big E endorses the above comments & more. I know I'm biased but it was one of the best dos we had for ages.
It cost the four of us quite a lot of money but it was money very well spent. We don't begrudge a penny. Anyone
who didn't stay & have a good time and join in were the losers. Main contributors are mentioned above - but
really everyone joined in and had a great time. You all helped to make it a great night. Special mention to my
hard working, long suffering, wife, D. Thank you so much for supporting me/us.

also to members who could not be with us, but gave me a contribution before, a very big THANK YOU. Monies
raised this year now total £225:00; I will be sending a cheque to both charities, in the near future. ======================================================================== A rather young, I hesitate to say - handsome & certainly won't define young, S (H of J) mischievously wrote on 24/10/2011
